QoS support in Object-Based Storage Devices

چکیده
Quality of Service (QoS) is an essential aspect of any large storage system. The object-based storage model is an emerging distributed storage architecture that differs from the NAS and SAN storage models. The difference warrants a reexamination of how to provide QoS support under the new object-based model. In this position paper we examine the way in which QoS is achieved in existing distributed storage systems, outline the issues in providing QoS support in our object-based storage system, and describe the design of OBIS, a mode-changing disk scheduler that can provide the underlying QoS support for objectbased storage devices.

The Design and Implementation of AQuA: An Adaptive Quality of Service Aware Object-Based Storage Device
As storage systems are becoming larger and more complicated, they must handle an increasing variety of data storage needs. Storage system Quality of Service (QoS) has therefore become an important issue. Storage systems must be able to deliver satisfactory performance under both expected and unexpected workloads and, increasingly, must handle data (such as multimedia data) with real timeliness ...
متن کاملQoS Support for Intelligent Storage Devices
Most existing research on real-time storage have focused on the use of QoS-aware disk schedulers. However, the increasing intelligence and autonomy of modern disk drives have made fine-grained external disk scheduling difficult. As this trend continues, providing QoS-aware storage by using external disk schedulers may become infeasible in the future. The goal of this paper paper is to present a...

متن کاملRBF: A New Storage Structure for Space-Efficient Queries for Multidimensional Metadata in OSS
Object-based storage systems (OSS) have evolved from the traditionally unintelligent management to intelligent and selfmanaged schemes by delegating low-level management activities to storage devices, and providing new functionalities, such as greater scalability and dynamic reconfiguration. An object consists of data, user-accessible attributes and device-managed metadata, which is responsible...
متن کاملScaling Security for Big, Parallel File Systems
The need for petaand exabyte scale parallel file systems that support high-performance computing (HPC) has been rapidly increasing. These systems have unique demands, different from those of traditional distributed file systems. As a result, securing I/O in big, parallel file systems without significantly impacting performance has proven challenging. Parallel file systems are commonly composed ...
